After almost two years on the front-lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alberta’s nurses and health care workers need our support now more than ever.
Will you show your support by writing a message to thank them for their hard work and dedication? They worked through harsh, unimaginable conditions to keep us all safe. It’s time to show nurses that we care – because right now, they are hurting.
The more messages we write, the more nurses will see how much Albertans appreciate them.
Thank you messages may take some time to appear on this page.
Here's what supporters are saying
Thank you to all my colleagues for all the hard work you have done.

I spent much of my youth visiting my grandfather at Bridgeland Memorial as my grandpa dealt with a myriad of health issues from being exposed to agent orange during his military service. The nurses there were practically family. We know all to well how much conservative governemnts care about the health of their citizens. We have the same amount of hospitals in this region as we did when we had half the population. I was diagnosed with Colitis at 19 and at 20 spent a month in the hospital. Emergency rooms are what most of us see and it’s understandable why people get frustrated with our healthcare when that’s all they see. But I know that it does not help our emergency departments when there is no place to go. This is a failure of infrastructure investment, and I know how much the nurses care and how hard they work within this broken system, I appreciate them and will always stand by them against neoliberal and neoconservative governemnts. Strike! I will be there with coffee’s and sandwiches.

I don't generally partake in what seems like Performative Activism. This appears to be a legitimate outlet to provide a voice for otherwise silent supporters. Here is my thank you to the nurses of Alberta. I believe there are no words to express the gratitude I have felt for the nurses who have cared for me and my family. Often, words of thanks are answered with “we’re just doing our jobs”. I think of the many professions where their service is conditional and often lead to a refusal to serve. Not with nurses. A nurse will treat you regardless of reason or cause. “Just doing your job” is to act selflessly. You face hate, ignorance, pain, idiocy, silence and fatigue and yet you “do the job”. It is unimaginable how we would not support the people who we will need most when we are in pain. There’s so little I feel I can do to repay our nurses. Getting my shots, wearing a mask, social distancing, not travelling and now writing this message still seem like hardly anything in comparison to what I’ve observed nurses put up with just to do there job.

I gave birth during the pandemic, and had to be in isolation due some overlap between potential Covid symptoms, and good old labour! Even though they had to don and doff added PPE every time they came into the room, they didn’t hesitate to help us through our first night with a squalling newborn! Thank you so much for all you do, you kept me sane in that first wonderful but terrifying time!

Thank you to all of you, who are exhausted and fed up, but still do what is expected of you. You are true heroes! That's putting it mildly.

You were at my bedside when I received my new liver. You never faltered, you were there to coax me to get up and there to walk me down the hallway. You were there when some of us couldn't go to the regular ICU because of COVID, But you were there anyway and put us in the ICU burn unit. You never faltered. Any of you. And I will love all of you forever (even when you had a bad day) and will always stand up for you. You are angels every last one of you. Thank you thank you thank you.

OMG. We’d all be in huge trouble if it wasn’t for our nurses. I know doctors are also wonderful to say the least. In hospital the doctor sees you 2% of the time nurses are with us the other 98% of the time. Nurses make our unfortunate hospital stay bearable and give us that needed human interaction as we lay in that hospital bed. I’ve seen the nurses work and there is nothing easy about it. Nurses bring that smile and sense of hope we need as we heal. Nurses are angels compassionate and unselfishly giving. They keep us as comfortable an pain free as they can. They risk their own lives to help our most contagious and deadly diseased patients. You couldn’t pay me enough to do nurses work. Without nurses life would be miserable. We need nurses as much as a baby needs it’s mother. Thank you nurses. My appreciation for what you do is as high up as the stars. Thank you thank you thank you! You are all angles!

You are doing an amazing job. Can’t thank you enough for all you do. As a retired nurse I understand what you are going through. I have been on the picket line and understand how you have stood up for what is right. The fact that you have worked overtime and many extra shifts is really appreciated. You put the people first and do it with a smile. I have been to the hospital a few times in the past 2 years and when I talk to you, you do not complain. You smile and always put my care first, I know you have taken care of some of my residents and unfortunately have been with them when they have passed away. All of you have done a great job and should be aware that without you this pandemic would be a greater disaster than it is now. I can’t say thank you enough for all you are doing and have done. Love you all!!

As a retired nurse of 73, I have some understanding of what you are going through with the short staffing and long overtime shifts butwhat I can't imagine, is the ongoing intensity, fatigue and not seeing an end to this. Please remember that you are all so appreciated and valued. You are there when we need you, helping, caring, understand and reassuring when we are at our most vulnerable. I hope that this gives you some measure of reassurance. I pray that gives you some comfort as many of you encounter negativity when away from work and sadly the sence of betrayal from a government that is so ignorant of all that you do. I have always admired, and continue to be grateful for UNA and its work. They are always there to fight for you/us to preserve excellence and fairness for us all.

I don't know how they do this day in and day out. Exposed to the virus constantly, they put their lives at risk and their family's lives as well. They are faced daily with the ignorance and rudeness perpetrated by those people who refuse to protect themselves and those around them. Then, when they end up in hospital the nurses save their lives. What will happen if we allow Jason Kenney to continue to ravage the healthcare system by eliminating more nurses? These men and women are the true unsung heroes of this pandemic and they should be recognized as such.

Thank you all for your dedicated service, as a Nurse myself I can appreciate all that you are going through. I’m sure it is probably even worse than as reported on the front lines but please take heart in knowing that I appreciate your all and hope you have enough stamina and health to see you through to the other side. I have had to take an early disability retirement and feel everyday that I should be there helping out but can’t,, love you all and appreciation going out to others in your same shoes, Doctors, respiratory therapists, dietary, house- keeping etc

Nurses go above and beyond what they do they put up with bad or upset people who if they are not treated when they want them to but the nurses do their best to let them know how busy they are and try not to loose their tempers.People should try to be in their shoes for one or more shifts they need more help. i do hope they get it soon.thank you.

First I’d like to say a great big THANK YOU to all the nurses & support staff ❤️‼️ My daughter is an LPN, so I’ve got some idea of the working conditions & long hours they put in, day after day 😳‼️ Unfortunately Covid has brought out the worst in some patients who feel that they have the right to verbally or physically lash out at our hardworking nurses ! This behaviour is unacceptable! We need to show RESPECT, APPRECIATION & please let’s just BE KIND to them all 😍‼️

I am most grateful for Alberta Nurses and their untiring and dangerous service they have provided over time and especially during the Pandemic. It is impossible to imagine what the care would be like without them actually there would be no health care. They need to be paid more. andgreatly reduce the incomes of those at the top and middle management who currently make obscene amounts of money!!! Ethel Samis

Where would we be without the care and compassion of nurses? Thank you is not barely enough to express what is owed to these people who give selflessly in this time of need particularly. In normal(?) circumstances, their hard work is just expected and certainly the government feels no need to reward them for their efforts. We need to make it clear that if they are not recognized, why would anyone be drawn to this profession? Nurses are responsible for so many different aspects of care and we need them more than most realize. Nurses are to be applauded and thanked and recognized by all of us . Many the New Year be an easier one for all!.

Nurses have given so much and endured so much during this pandemic... it is amazing to me how you all keep going, not only just to keep showing up shift after shift, but to keep on showing the deep caring that you give to every patient, no matter what has brought them into your care. Your dedication and professionalism in the face of not only insane work expectations but also disrespect from some of the very people you serve is astounding. Dear Nurses, please know that the people of Alberta need you and appreciate your dedication. I am so grateful that many of you were there during the birth of my grandson during a pandemic. Thank you for keeping him and our daughter safe. Thank you for caring for our friend who needed a triple bypass during the pandemic and for two other friends fighting cancer, needing surgeries and treatments during the pandemic. Thank you for caring for our fellow Albertans who are too stubborn to be vaccinated. Even though they might not be deserving, that's how we roll, everyone gets the care they need. We appreciate your long hours, the patience and the missed vacation time and extra shifts. You are truly our saving grace. I hope we soon get a government that treats you with the respect you deserve. I wish you good health and some respite from this terrible pandemic!

I owe the nurses my life in long-term care. They taught me a lot about my health and what I needed to do to better my health to the point where I could move . They made it possible for me to better my health and improve my life to the point where I could move out of long-term care and into an apartment by myself. And I am thriving. Thank you very much

The healthcare system would not exist without you and for that you are resilient, strong, and brave for each and every day you can get out of bed super early or super late and save lives; truly there is nothing more heroic than that. A great big thank you to all Alberta nurses and health care workers! What you do for Albertan's is so appreciated! I don't have a COVID experience but recently I had knee surgery at the Weiss Surgical Center. From the receptionist, to the support staff, the nurses, and the surgeon, everyone was professional and so friendly! They took a not-so-nice experience and turned it into one that was as pleasant as possible.

For a brief moment, at the start of this pandemic, I was working in the MRI department at the UAH. I've seen first hand the level of attention, care, and caution taken with vulnerable patients. I applaud all nurses and medical practitioners in Alberta who have been going into work day after day and dealing with scared patients, angry patients, people in complete denial of reality, and physical/emotional burnout. I thank you. There are not enough words to express the level of appreciation I have for what you do. Keep up the fight. I will keep fighting governments like the UCP who want to tear you down.

As a retired nurse I can fully appreciate the sacrifices each of you have made during the last 21 months. It has been only because of all of you and your unwavering dedication to maintain and improve the health of all Albertans that we have managed to get as far as we have come so far.nursing can be a thankless profession as those who are not involved in it in any way whether that they cannot understand the commitment each one if you makes by coming to your job every day and doing the best you can in all circumstances. I and my entire family want to thank you for doing what you do and we pray that you will continue to stay safe and healthy while keeping us safe as well. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you grin the bottom of our hearts . We wish you the happiest Christmas you can have and enjoy this season with you families whenever you can be together .

I am eternally grateful that my knee replacement , lip cancer and hysterectomy were done in the spaces between locked downs. Everyday I think of the people who are still waiting. Every nurse that cared for me was an angel and had such integrity amidst so many challenges. You are my hero’s and the drs as well. Support each other and feel proud.

A very warm thank you to the day surgery nurses at the Misericordia and Cross Cancer Institute for the excellent care I received in April and May of this year. I was fortunate to have breast cancer surgery in spite of COVID. Thank you for your dedication and professionalism. Your caring attitude was evident and was greatly appreciated.

Words cannot express how valued you are. I know that life has been horribly challenging for you, but I appreciate that you are still staying strong. I pray for strength for you every day. My daughter-in-law is an ICU nurse in Edmonton, as I know how difficult this has been for her and for all of you on the front lines, and in the background of our health system too! Please know that you do a vital job and do it well!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do. For treating patients like family and caring for them as you would for kin. For dealing with less than kind people with grace and professionalism. Thank you for continuing to care when it feels like the feeling is not reciprocated. You matter. What you do matters. Thank you. May this season bring you some peace and joy.

Thank you to all our Alberta nurses who give their caring attention to the sick. One of these is our own daughter who will be working over the holidays in our hospital here. I hope that our government to recognize all they have done and say thank you with increased salary and benefits, they deserve it.

You, nurses, have led the way over the last two years in this pandemic! Nurses need to be supported and paid for their overtime and dedication. Nurses and teachers are so undervalued in wage increases. There is no patient care, surgery, sustainability in health care without nurses.

To each and every nurse in this province I thank you sincerely for your tireless work day after day, not just during this pandemic but always in your line of duty. You deal with the rest of us when we aren’t always pleasant or grateful, you deal with us at our worst and often at our lowest. Yours is a profession of caring and compassion, giving and helping. You deserve our support our respect and our gratitude. And you deserve far more than this government gives you on all accounts. Please do not lose faith. You are needed and wanted. Sincerely.

I think of you every day. You looked after my Dad when we weren't allowed in. When I was allowed in, because he was going, you taught me what to do. I am ever ever in awe of you, always and forever grateful. I wish for some break from this some time soon. You deserve so much. I wish you health and strength. Coco.
